Protest by the Afghanistan Women’s Political Participation Network in Tehran Against the Detention of Women and Girls in Herat

A group of members of the Afghanistan Women’s Political Participation Network gathered today in front of the Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran and held a protest rally, strongly condemning the recent detentions of women and girls by the Taliban in Herat city and several other provinces of Afghanistan.

The participants expressed deep concern over the situation of women in Afghanistan, describing these detentions as violations of citizens’ fundamental rights, human dignity, and social freedoms. They called for an immediate and unconditional end to these actions.

Expressing solidarity with the women and people of Herat, they emphasized that the continuation of restrictive and repressive policies against women will not prevent Afghan women from standing up to achieve their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Members of the Afghanistan Women’s Political Participation Network stated during the gathering that Afghan women will not remain silent in the face of discrimination, deprivation, and violations of human rights. They affirmed their commitment to continue their civil and peaceful struggles for justice, equality, and the preservation of human dignity.

The participants also called on the United Nations, international organizations, human rights institutions, and the global community not to remain silent regarding the current situation in Afghanistan. They urged the international community to take serious and practical measures to stop arbitrary detentions, the suppression of women, and widespread human rights violations.

At the end of the gathering, the Afghanistan Women’s Political Participation Network once again expressed its support and solidarity with the women and people of Herat, calling for an immediate end to violence, arbitrary arrests, and all forms of violations against women’s rights in Afghanistan.
